Separating cucumber plants

I got two cucumber plants in one small pot from a garden centre. It looks like they need to be repotted now.

Is it safe to separate the two plants as I read that its roots are delicate?

Thanks

Tip them out of the pot and have a look to see how entangled the roots are.  My experience is that the closer together the two stems are to each other, the trickier it will be.  If it looks like you will damage too many roots when separating then the alternative is to sacrifice the weaker one.  Many folk sow 2 cucumber seeds in a small pot and pull the weakest up if both germinate, so doing that is pretty much standard practice.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
