What is this plant/flower PLEASE?

edited May 2020 in Problem solving
Hello folks,

Desperate for help here. Can anyone identify the plant here? It’s in my parents garden and they are wracking their brains trying to figure it out.

Any help much appreciated

Hi Laura, mystery solved, it's an Aquilegia.  :)

It looks like a hybrid between the wild form (which have only a single colour in the flower, usually purple, pink, white blue or red) and a cultivated variety.  If your parents collect and sow the seed as soon as the seed heads dry out and begin to open, they will have lots more next year and all of resulting plants can have different colours. :)

    Sunbonnet or grandmother's bonnet?
A good hoeing is worth two waterings.

Those are common names for the same thing, Aquilegia.
