Wilting Magnolia

  • I planted two magnolia tress last year, they seem to have established well and had plenty of healthy green leaves, until a couple of days ago.  Now they are both wilting,  can I revive them and what has caused this?

It was caused by the frosts we've had over the last 3 nights.  All of my 6 magnolia trees now have lots of floppy, frost-damaged leaves.  The damaged leaves will go brown, die and be shed by the tree.  However, new leaves will grow so don't worry. :)

So, my magnolia is looking quite healthy now, has never flowered and I'm not sure if I should be pruning it as it's quite sparse in branches but quite wide. Any suggestions?

It’s only a baby. Don’t prune it … it will develop a wonderful elegant shape if you let it.
I’m concerned that it’s much too close to that fence. Magnolias are usually grown as a single specimen tree in the centre of a grass, or in a similar place where if had plenty of room to show itself off.

Would I be able to move it at this stage?

I think it would be best done in the autumn … @punkdoc @Hostafan1 or some others might be better able to advise you on that …
