tree stump

Hi fellow garderners I have an old pine tree trunk in a sunny position in my garden which I would like to make into a feature. I was thinking of making a rockery around it for alpines. Do you think it would work or should I just make a flower bed and put the rockery elsewhere.

Sorry but difficult to say without a photo. Is it in a sunny spot as alpines usually like sun but not winter wet

Depends on how big the stump is, but I'd be tempted to drill holes in it and plant sedums , then build up plants around it. I have done this with an old Hawthorne stump.

This is it freshly planted last year.
