Advice please

Hi everyone.

I've got a new bed in the place of our old shed. See pic.  It gets full sun from 9am until about 13:00 and then partial shade from the Red Robin next to it. I enjoy pottering in garden, but nothing too crazy as I have 2 young girls to look after.

I need to full the space. I was thinking of a tall evergreen shrub for the corner space, and maybe some ornamental grasses to give movement and texture. That will leave some space in the front for annual planting/colour.

The tall evergreen shrub - is there one that has a deep purple leaf? I was looking at diablo but they shed leaves and it's a mission to clear up leaves (I already have to do it for the red robin).

Any suggestions for shrub and grasses? I've been trowling the internet but it's a minefield!

If you have 2 youngsters, why not a small pergola with say a clematis growing.  It could be their own little private spot!
A good hoeing is worth two waterings.

    That's a nice idea too!
