How to support outside tom plants in grow bag

Help please, I will need to plant my gardeners delight toms outside next month into grow bags on a patio. I can't fix to a wall and sadly can be a windy spot; how do I make something to support them as they grow? thanks for any advice Jenny

I use these which I find very good: https://www.gardman.co.uk/grow-bag-cane-support-frame/

If you put the grow bags on a soil area, you can push some  canes through the grow bags and into the soil below.

I use buckets that the supermarkets have their flowers in you sometimes they charge 0.50p -1£ for them,I found that grow bags aren't deep enough, and they last a long time.

I forgot to tell you that you have to make holes in the bottom and put some small stones at the bottom for drainage, then you can use the grow bag compost and whatever other compost you have to fill then push the cane in.
  • thanks for thoughts. Sadly no earth area I can put grow bags on. Will check out the frame things on the internet and indeed consider the supermarket flower pots. Responses much appriciated  Jenny

If you have access to canes you could make a 3d frame (sort of like a tent frame?) and hang netting from it. But then, I always was a cheapskate!
  • Thanks Mikey but likely to take off in the wind here!

I think pots are definitely the best option @Jenny.welstand
If the site's windy, it's vital you have really secure supports. Tomato plants are quite heavy as they mature, and even quite light winds can bend and snap them.
A tripod of canes with the stems tied carefully onto them is probably best.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

  • Thanks Fairygirl and all, seems I need to combine some of these ideas to adapt to what I have to make tripods in pots!

    Good luck with it @Jenny.welstand
The most important thing is to get the supports in before they really need it too  ;)
