Tomato Plants Wilted

Hi all - could anyone tell me why 4 seemingly healthy tomato plants would turn dark green and wilt to a point they look dead overnight?  I did water them so am wondering if over watering could cause that to happen?  They are also outside.

    I think you answered your own question...if you're in the UK it's too cold to put tomatoes outside and for the next couple of weeks as it's below 10°C most nights.

    @amancalledgeorge is correct.
    Far too cold.
    Don't water them late on in the day anyway - always better to water early in the day, so that they aren't sitting in cold soil overnight,even when they're inside.  :)

    I think we're going to see lots of these queries in the next few weeks. That warm spell has led people to believe it's summer  :)

    Agreed @Fairygirl easy enough to get carried away...took my little plants out of the plastic greenhouse and back in the house when this cold snap came...annoying but we will overcome 😉

    I don't sow mine until April. Even then - on a day like today, my kitchen is technically not warm enough for them!
    ...and still people wonder why we don't bother trying to grow tomatoes outdoors up here :D

    Ha!ha! True @Fairygirl ...our draughty old house is not exactly perfect but only pricked up into individual pots a couple of weeks ago. And half my tomato seeds rotted too...but hey ho. We live and learn, the first time I grew any from seed usually just pick a six pack from the GC.

    Mine are the same - only potted on recently. Rubbish compost though, as it was all I could get. I've got some better stuff, so they'll be better on the next 'move'.
    I used to just buy a few plants too, as I didn't have anywhere suitable rather than kitchen windowsills. A wee polycarbonate growhouse now, so I can get about four in there. Does us fine  :)

    It was down to 2 C  here last night. Outdoor tomatoes are still in a heated propagator, won't go out until June.

    Mine are by the spare bedroom window. No problem with temperature because the boiler's in there, and I open the window when it's warm enough in the daytime for some ventilation and hopefully to stop them getting too soft. They are a bit leggy now but should sort themselves out when they go outside. I'm hoping that it'll soon be warm enough to stand them out in a sheltered spot during the day. The next step after that is to leave them out at night with fleece over, then into their final positions hopefully early June.

    Wildly fluctuating day/night temperatures here in coastal SW Wales - o/n minimum 5c just yesterday. (Had been 9c or 10c last week inside unheated greenhouse). Even on 'Costa del Dyfed', just 200metres from tidal waters of Milford Haven, it's not wise to risk tender stuff outdoors until June. Happy 'lockdown' gardening everyone!{Keep the fleece handy even then - and not just for the tomatoes!!}.

    I  put mine out for an 'airing' when it's sunny. I put them in the porch at night.
    I will be SO glad when I can leave them outside!
    In London. Keen but lazy.
