HELP!!! New Laurel Growth going brown

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help me, I cut my laurels several weeks ago and new growth was fine up to the last few days. I had fed them chicken manure per guidelines and also have been watering them every 3 days due to the dry weather and noticed this morning that the new growth on the leaves is going brown. Does anyone know what the issue might be? My initial thought is the frost at night that we've had over the last few nights as I don't believe they've been under/over watered and I've fed them appropriately. All the other mature leaves appear to be fine & healthy as can be seen in the photo.

Look forward to any help.

Clive

  • I am sure this is frost damage as it's affected all the young growth.

Weather damage. Nothing to worry about  :)

Just a thought - are these recently planted @clivewmoore? If not - they really don't need extra food and water  - that just encourages too much soft growth.
Once they're properly established - they should be left to get on with things, and they'll get their roots down to find moisture, which also helps them shrug off any adverse weather.  :)

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

  • @Fairygirl & @rachelQrtJHBjb thanks for the advice above. @Fairygirl, they've been down 3 years I think now so they are fairly established, I give them feed once a year to promote healthy looking foliage as sometimes the leaves go a bit yellow/brown, the feed seems to sort this out then. I only water them at the moment to break down the feed, its all pretty much gone now so I plan to stop the watering over the next few days or might just not water again.

I thought they looked quite mature, but that was why I asked  :)
Laurel needs very little attention, unless they're in really unsuitable conditions.

It's perfectly normal for them to have some yellowing leaves too- so don't worry unduly about that. All evergreens shed some at varying points  :)
