Scabious

I have just planted Out several scabious Which have been in my greenhouse over the winter.  They are rather tall and flimsy. Wondered if I should go for the Chelsea Chop. Any advice?

When you say tall and flimsy do you mean the stalks? From what I remember they form a loose basal clump before flower stems form. Numerous of those form over the summer months and when flowers finish you can prune the stems down to base.

Newly planted out plants may take a bit of time to toughen up. But excessive lush growth can also mean they collapse at the slightest wind, so pruning down now will just mean a slight delay with the flowers.
  • Thanks Borderline. No it’s not flower stalks, more like excessive growth. I’ll take your advice and prune down now. Hopefully they will become more bushy.
