Potentilla

I have several potentillas which have been lovely in previous years. However this year they are all very leggy and very ‘twiggy’ in their centres with flowers only on the ends. Should I cut them down in the hope they will rejuvenate or will I be doing more harm than good?  Any advice fellow gardeners?

    They do regrow from old wood so not a problem to do some judicious pruning, after the flowers have finished. Confess that in our old garden I pruned them with a strimmer. they regrew nice and bushy.
