Have I bought the wrong size pots for my roses?

KatsaKatsa Posts: 278
Hi all,

I've purchased two DA Roald Dahl bare root roses and planted them in ehlo containers D42 x H56cm and 26cm at the bottom.

After spending far too much time trawling the internet, I'm now really worried the pots are too small and I'll need to buy new ones (which will be so much more expensive).

Are they too small? If so, can you recommend any alternative roses which would work? Ideally peach/apricot coloured? They're on either side of my front door, which is south facing.

Thank you!

A newbie rose grower

    Hi, welcome to the forum!
They are big enough, bigger than usually recommended. And bigger than what I use.
Roald Dahl is a good rose for a pot and very pretty and reliable one.
Remember to water it as needed and feed but other than that, enjoy your rose.

I think 42cms May be a little small? I assume that’s the diameter? I use half barrels for roses. With the right soil and plenty of food and water they thrive.

Thanks @edhelka. I'm super pleased to.have stumbled upon this thread!

42cm is the diameter at the top of the planter and 26cm at the bottom  the volume is about 45l. @debs64 your roses look beautiful! What have you got underplanting them? What is the height of your barrels?
