Beetroot harvest

I’ve planted some beetroot and I was looking when to harvest. All I’ve seen in internet research is to pull them up when the root is approximately a golf ball size.

How are you supposed to know this when they grow underground?

Because they don't grow underground? They sit on the surface. It's not a true root crop, it's actually a bulge above the root we eat.

Wow!! New to this growing veg malarkey if you couldn’t tell. Every day’s a school day!!
So the “bulge” will actually be visible?

    Yep the bulge is visible.

It's all part of the fun of growing our own, we learn a lot of new things about our food.

There’s one thing to thank the lockdown for I suppose. Not sure if I would have done it otherwise. Thanks again.
