Bargain plants

There are some proper bargains in my local supermarket at the moment. Foxgloves and Geums (Mrs Bradshaw I think)in 2ltr pots for £5. Normally these would cost a tenner at least at the local garden centre, and certainly £15 online. The trick is to buy them early as they don't bother watering them and they just let them die.

    Waitrose have  a range of fairly basic stuff, lupins, oriental poppies, foxgloves, lupins etc 4 for £10

    One of the shopping channels has been selling plants really cheap. I think the nurseries are offloading them. Although some seem ridiculously expensive too.
    I think it's ideal world but im not sure.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

    Are foxgloves perennials, because as I mentioned earlier my local supermarket is selling them, in flower, in 2ltr pots, but there just seems to be too much foliage growth on them for it to be this years growth, or even last year's. Also, I know they prefer shade/semi shade, but will they be happy in full sun.

    They usually drop their seed in late summer and put on leaf, they then flower the following year. The year after flowering they come back but are diminished, they are kinda tatty. Some are true perennials, I have a dwarf carillon and it comes back year after year.

    I watch these programmes like gardening porn. Never been tempted apart from a few years ago when I bought a bundle of bareroot roses. They were all good.

    I don’t watch Ideal World but I’ve noticed that QVC are selling such plants.  Some of the prices are ridiculous.  QVC’s Face Book page is inundated with complaints and photos of the state the plants are in when delivered !  I’m sticking with Aldi and our local greengrocers which has bought in a small range of plants.

    Maybe it was qvc then. I usually just flick through the channels looking for something to watch

    Hi @peteS , we have foxgloves which self seed in the garden and they always go for the sunniest spots. In fact the one area I would really like them to spread into which is some dappled shade (the ideal textbook location for foxgloves) , I can’t get them established!
