Bloody crows!!!

Just replaced an old/tattered hanging basket/ through liner two days ago that suddenly started to degrade....and now I know why!!

Bloody crows have been going at it, and have attacked the new one, too!! 🤬

Any ideas on alternative linersI can use that they won't like so much please?

Sod's law I was planning on putting the bird netting up today, too 🤦‍♂️

I gave up using the coir liners after the birds (mostly jackdaws) took them to bits for nesting material every year. Now I use old compost sacks turned inside out so the black side is showing.

Funny enough I did use cut up bits tucked behind the bars to re-inforce the previous liner until I could get another one....threw that all away after I got the new liner, though 🤦‍♂️

Do you just poke small holes underneath for drainage??

Yep, I usually poke the holes a bit above the base so it holds a small reservoir of water. Either that or lay the bags with a join across the base that lets water out.

My brother has used large rhubarb leaves to line his baskets, no problems with birds and the plants have grown well in them He has done it for the past 4 years without any problems.

I always use compost bags too with the black side facing out. I rather like the idea of using rhubarb leaves though!
