It can be a bit of a pain, but l usually deadhead individual flowers as you can usually see the next flower bud a bit further down the stem. Once they've all gone over, l cut the stem to the ground.

Lovely thank you Anni, I had thought I’d read somewhere that they’re cut to the ground but I wasn’t sure if the leaves became larger on the flowering stems. But now I know so thank you!
Hi Margaret Just a bit of advice with Geums, apart from watering them, because they are one plant that will tell you that they need a drink. I have Geums that have been in my garden for 3 years but they will droop their beautiful flowers if I forget to water them The other useful point, imo, is divide them when they get big and are struggling to give a show of flowers. Geums are one plant that thrives when divided as it reinvigorates the plant to flower more. Mrs Bradshaw and Blazing Sunset both flower well after division .Totally Tangerine stopped flowering for me on its 3rd year plants but after dividing them are literally the first colour perennial in May
