Acer type tree - help to identify fungus

Hi

We have a very old tree which has developed some sort of fungus on parts of it’s trunk/branches. Please see photos.

Could anyone please advise as to what it could be and how to treat it?

    It's not fungus - it's lichen and nothing to worry about.

    That looks like the Cherry Plum trees we have outside our house.  If correct, you can eat the fruit.

    Hi KeenOnGreen - We’ve always referred to it as an acer as we weren’t sure. Appreciate it’s leaves are not like a typical acer/maple shape. Doesn’t flower or fruit though.

    Yes KOG is quite right - def not an acer, I'm sure someone here will be able to identify it though... hopefully

    Looks like a Copper Beech (Fagus sylvatica f. purpurea)
