Pruning cherry tree

I have a cherry tree though i'm not sure what type. It's getting a bit leggy and i was wondering if i should prune it and when and how? Any help much appreciated.

    cherrys can look leggy when young. it will fill out in its own time.

    Don't prune it until July/August, cherries can get a disease called silver leaf which is air-borne and enters through cut branches. It can kill a tree.

    Thanks Lizzie and Bobby. I just need to work out what bits to prune or just leave it like Bobby said.
