Loropetalum chinsense pruning
in Plants
Evening everyone
So I have a loropetalum chinse, think it is fire dance. It’s been in the ground for a few years and would like to know if and when I can prune it back to make it smaller, plus I’ve noticed some of the leaves are going a tan colour?

I have several of the Black Pearl variety (hardy to -10). Fire dance is a wee bit more tender, I think, so if you have had a very cold, windy spell that might make the leaves brown, but I’m not sure as I don’t grow that variety. They are not ‘acid loving’ plants but do prefer a neutral to slightly acidic soil, so of you soil is alkaline, a top dressing of ericaceous compost around the plant or a weak feed for acid plants might perk them up.
I guess I could prune it back now then? Could I take up to a 1/3 of the plant away? Thank you for the advice.
Many thanks
Josh
