    I think that may be Golden Root? Its a type of stonecrop/sedum.

    Edited to add: just found the 'proper' name  :) Rhodiola rosea

    Aah, that's great thanks @herbaceous. It was quite small last year when I was weeding and I decided to leave it as thought it looked quirky and interesting. Stay it shall!

    I think you are very wise CumbriMan, there are many other (and more palatable) remedies for cold and stress.  A hot toddy for one  :)
