Acer problems. Disease or conditions?

I have 4 acers along a back fence. Dappled shade. Seemed to have got on all right over the last few years except for frost bite once or twice. One of the 4 (orange dream)  has taken a big turn for the worse as the buds were coming out. Bark colour change, dead buds and now the one next to it looks poorly too. Does anyone recognise this? I saw a YouTube video about a virus in the US affecting acers. Not sure if it’s in the UK though.

 Thanks in advance.

    Looks like Verticillium wilt.
How can you lie there and think of England
When you don't even know who's in the team

I’ve cut some dead looking branches off both the dead looking one and the partially sick one to see if I can fine the dark rings in the branch as proof of V.W. Partially sick one had a few signs which could be dark rings, but did have this. Does anyone recognise this as a symptom of verticillium wilt?
