This snapdragon plant survived the winter and flourishing. About to flower. Two of them survived.

Last year I had a big beautiful white one, self-seeded in just the right place under the beech tree.  I cut off the top two thirds in the autumn and it is looking as though it will perform almost as well again.  I wonder, has anyone ever got a third year's flowers on an antirrhinum?

It was a mild winter. Our Black Prince came through unscathed and I will try the challenge of keeping them growing for a third year.

@BenCotto - I would love to grow Black Prince - I missed the window for this year, I think. That looks like a pretty shady bed. Were they ok there?

Some antirrhinum varieties, including Black Prince, are described on various websites as "short-lived perennials".  I like the look of Black Prince, I might try some next year in the red end of my rainbow border.
  • Thanks for that posting. I was just going to ask the same question what I should do with my snapdragons. I grew them from seeds last year and 2 plants survived the winter. I was wondering if I should cut them down, and @josusa47 answered my question.
PS: I will find out next year if they survived a third year.

    I my garden.
