Stony slightly sloping garden

Hi
Can anyone help me at all? We have recently purchased our 1st home. The garden was a big project though. We removed 6 trees from 42ft x 60ft garden. The previous owners covered a lot of the garden with tarpaulin ( no idea why) with soil underneath.

We have removed the 6 trees, unearthed a feature wall and tried our best to airoate the soil. However the soil has lots of bricks ( around 200) with small and larger stones in it. I would love to grow grass from seed and was planning on laying topsoil so that we didn't have to remove every single rock we could. However I'm frightened that because our garden is on a slight slope the topsoil will essentially slip down the garden when we have a good downpour (west of Scotland).

Could anyone give me any advice on the best course of action. I have attached some pictures to give some indication of the soil and the slope.

  • Plant roots will keep your soil together so it does not slide down the slope. Get your new garden growing and I don't think there would be a problem. Have a steeper slope in parts of the garden here and we get plenty of rain and there was no noticeable movement in the ground while grass seed was starting to grow or after.
