  After a bit of reading it says these are highly invasive and banned for sale in garden centres, any truth to this?

  In it's defence, it does say not to plant 'in the countryside', but it's a rather strange article for them to write 
  
  It'll have been a present from the birds. They're very handy for insects when in flower, and then berries later for the birds.
