Renting land - Network Rail

We have been using some Network Rail land for approximately the last 30 years. We have recently been told that they plan to fence the area off.
I was wondering if anyone had experience of renting land from Network Rail...were you successful? How does it work? What are the costs involved? Any advice welcome. Thank you

There's a lockdown project for you to find out the legal standing??
We have a little bit at the end of the garden that was 'orphaned' by fences either side put up by neighbours. We should really claim it and have always treated it as part of the garden. I have heard if anyone else tried to claim it now, it would default to us in any case and they would have to pay for the court case. We have maintained the land and fencing and also planted a hedge to replace an old fence at the back.
Really best to have a consultation with a specialist solicitor.
In all, your chances are pretty good that you could claim it as your own.
