Novice gardener

Hi, trying to find climbers , ideally evergreen and fast growing that DO NOT need a large space for roots. Trying to hide an ugly 6 foot fence . It has a limited amount of space for the roots . Can anyone suggest a good climber, please

Fastest evergreen climber we have grown is Jasmine officinale.  You don’t say how small the planting space is, or whether it is sunny or shady.  More info and a photo will help people to advise you of the best options.

Solanum Crispum glasnevin will cover a fence in a single season,  cut down in Spring it will grow very quickly, I had to dig mine out, with a pick axe😀 much too big, but will suit your 6’ fence.   Seems to grow anywhere and in any soil. Having said that, I won’t do in a pot if that’s what you thing about.

Semi evergreen and nice purple flowers.
Heres the one I dug out.  I cut it down to about 18” every year and still got this much growth.
Bought in Morrison for about 1.50.
Lots of google images showing bigger ones.

Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

  • Hi thanks for both replies. It’s only about 1 foot deep  , 1 foot width and 2 feet long . Shaded south facing .
