Unknown weed help please!

Hi.
Moved into a property in winter with this weed covering 95% of the 89sqm lawn, but I've no idea what it is or how to get rid of it. Put some high strength weed killer down 7 days ago but it's only killed off what little grass was there (which I was expecting to die anyway). Any advice on what it is and how to get rid of it without employing a pro would be really appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

Hi @adammitchell20 and welcome to the forum 😊
No flowers to see of course, but Ive a feeling that may be Orange Hawkweed aka Fox and Cubs

It’s sometimes sold as a native wildflower although it can be very invasive if it gets into lawns.

I’m not keen on using herbicides unnecessarily, but I’m not sure if there’s any practical alternative in this case to another application ... what sort did you use?  The glyphosate based ones can take a couple of weeks to take effect.

Don’t suppose you’d considered having a wildflower meadow instead of a lawn 😉

  • Thank you for your reply! It was glyphosate so will give it another week.
As for keeping it, we'll it's incredibly low maintenance, just not sure the kids would enjoy it to play on!
Presume attempting to scarify it would make no difference?

None whatever other than to spread it around a bit and encourage it to increase by making sideshoots 😂
