Two sunflowers in one pot

My 5 year old planted some sunflowers and we’ve ended up with 3 lots of 2 in a pot. One pair very close, another 3cm apart. They are looking really good and tall, 25cm, 8 leaves. Can I separate them or should I chop the weaker one away? Would prefer to separate if I can as they are the best of the bunch! Thanks
