I agree @Fire. I don't understand some people really. There are a few local people who have tried and tried.

Maybe letters to local papers are in order and Twitter shaming. I guest the activists have tried all this....

It’s too late. They’ve pulled it down already.

..... I meant appeal for them to put in north facing swift bricks in the new development.

Sorry @Fire I misunderstood. Yes so I don't know the full details of the discussions that were had but to be completely fair to the developers I think that adding swift bricks is "under consideration for the build" but that doesn't help for this year's nesting season. As I understand it they were asked to hold off until after the nesting season or put nesting boxes up in the meantime and work around them but I suppose neither of those options were economically viable.

There are some nearby roads that have recently put up swift boxes and are waiting patiently for their first residents. Some are even using the speakers!! Perhaps the swifts will be able to find one of these nearby.

If swifts are already nesting in the area, that should help a lot.

Re swifts arriving and looking for new nests, Swift Conservation write

"Swifts arrive in three distinct waves. The first ones that are arriving now already have nest sites. Swift’s are near site faithful so will return to the same place year after year.
The next wave are the ones that are looking to set up a nest, these are the ones you want. These birds arrive at the end of May/June.  The next wave is the yearling.  They are generally mucking about and having a bit of a laugh whilst learning their surroundings."
