Lawn restoration tips

I have a garden for the first time in my adult life, but the lawn is a little worse for wear. Please could someone advise me on how I can restore the lawn to a better state? I have zero experience in gardening and wouldn’t know where to start!

Many thanks.

    I'd returf in all honesty.

It's not a huge lawn so wouldn't cost too much and would give you great base to start a care routine.

I'm unsure grass will do well there at all.
It looks very shady, and if that's a rear access gate that you'll use regularly, it'll be very worn in a line towards it....
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
