ANOTHER BEFORE AND AFTER

Just before the lockdown I had the tree surgeon in to remove a large laylandii and fir tree at the top of the garden.  This was the second stage as all in all we have removed about  8 large conifer type trees.  I was dubious about removing any as it would leave us very overlooked until new trees could grow to block windows from houses behind us.  However, I'm really glad we took the plunge and wish we had done it earlier as it has made the garden so much lighter and given me a lot more space to work with.  Here are a few photos.
Before any trees removed they were huge
Phase 1 quite a few leylandii removed.
This is the same area as above but a closer shot.  It's changed so much as I've been able to grow more varied plants.

Phase 2 the rest of the trees taken down

I have now planted three new trees which will, once established, hide the three windows which now overlook the garden.

Love the way you have re-planted the garden, lots more room to play with but, gosh those houses look so close!

They are @Lizzie27 This was originally a very large house with a huge garden.  A drive was created at the side and 2 detatched homes built at the bottom of the garden.  The original house was also split into two.  You can see the front of the houses at the bottom of our garden.  Once the trees have grown it will be fine and due to the garden design we still have places where we aren't overlooked.

That looks so much better Yviestevie, brave of you to do it, but what a transformation and so many more planting possibilities! Once your new trees grow up you won’t notice the other houses - what did you plant?

@Songbird-1 there are two climbing roses (Shropshire Lad) planted either side of the seat so they will add some privacy too.  I was so scared when the tree surgeon came for the second phase that I nearly sent him home.  I am so glad I didn't

@Songbird-1 The other problem they created was how much water and goodness they were taking out of the soil.  We inherited them.  They had been topped but that just made them get fatter and fatter.  They must have been 15' or more wide.

That's quite a difference @Yviestevie, the loss of that dense green screen will take a little bit of getting used to I imagine, but a great choice of replacements IMO.
Just another day at the plant...
