Camellia Problems

richlakinrichlakin Posts: 10
Hi all,

Hope everyone is keeping safe and well.

I have a problem with a Camellia and would appreciate any advice.

The plant is around 4 years old and has always done amazingly well in previous years but seems to have developed issues this Spring.

There’s a considerable amount of leaf drop and you might be able to see from the attached photos, there’s a few leaves turning brown and the plant overall does not look healthy.

It had flowered beautifully over the winter but now I fear it’s not in the best of health.

It’s in sunlight for around 6 or 7 hours a day.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance.

Rich

Has it been in the same pot for the whole 4 years? If so it's probably filled the pot with roots and is struggling to get enough water and food.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

It must be a very tough specimen to have lasted that long in that pot - and in sunlight for 6 or 7 hours a day.
There will be nothing to help it thrive there, as @JennyJ says. The recent hot dry weather has been a bridge too far for it.
If you can't get it in the ground, you need a container several times bigger, with soil - not just compost, good drainage, and get it into some shade.
Prune all the dead stuff off, water it thoroughly, and it might come back. A four year old shrub, even starting out as as a small plant, should be several times that size by now.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Hi...thanks for the response. Yes, same pot so I’ll get a larger one and repot I think. Thanks for the advice 🙂
