I pull off any yellowing outside leaves as they're not doing the plant much good anyway and leave only the fresh green leaves in the middle. I only have the wild primroses and it works well for them. They don't take up so much space when you remove last year's leaves.
I don't grow the fancy ones so I can't say if that works for them.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

Like you, I do this as a matter of course. I think decaying vegetation only encourages the slugs!
  • Sorry to bring this back up :) I have just potted 3 primroses that we had in a hanging basket over spring.

There currently in the sun. Am I best to them in a full shade area? Or part shade :)? Also will I damage it if I pull of leaves etc? Sorry again to bring back old news!

I usually put them somewhere quite shaded because they dry out less. They are pretty robust from my experience though,  I've had some that seemingly looked dried out and they returned. You can remove any dead or damaged leaves.

Thank you :) I have a shaded corner that will perfect for the pots until they can planted back out in the beds when there’s room!
