Climbing hydrangea - aerial roots not sticking to the wall

I am growing a climbing hydrangea on the sandstone front of my house.  It is now about 3 years old and growing well, but the aerial roots are not adhering to the wall, so it has to be tied up.  Will I need other support? A branch broke off in heavy rain the other day.

I'm not sure how rough your sandstone wall is, usually climbing hydrangeas aren't too bad if the surface isn't very smooth. Usually they need pretty strong support,  what are you tying it to ?

They sometimes take a while to get the hang of it. Ive always had to tie them to supports for the first few years.
