Timing of plum moth pheromone trap

Hi all,
In order to be able to share untainted plums this year, I have a pheromone trap waiting to go on the tree. I was hoping to pick your brains as to the best time to put it out. It's a very profuse cropping Victoria plum and i live in the south east. I gather the trap needs to be in place before flowering and warmer weather.  My feeling is that it should go out the sooner the better, but does that reduce its effective life?

Many thanks in advance!

Oh, and if  you live near Canterbury and I get a good crop, you are welcome share in the bounty :-)

Kind regards

I  suffered for a few years with plum moth so last year i tried a pheromone trap it caught many moths but the crop was ruined yet again by maggots even after putting it out in early May

    Hi,
Many thanks for your input Beefley and ColinA! I put it out on the 7th and, having checked it today, already have 7 moths in it. I can't imagine I timed it perfectly, so imagine I missed some, and thus some larvae will no doubt get into my plums. I guess time will tell, and I will let you know.

    Kind regards.

We have a victoria, 2013, the most amazing crop, we do the winter grease bands, and the moth traps, havent found either made the slightest difference, I am sorry to say.

Ah well, all an education in nature, and lesson that it can't be tamed :-)
