Screening wire fence

Hi

Hope someone may be able to help?

i have an east facing garden with a wire fence and concrete posts down one side which is not too pleasing on the eye ( please see example picture)
I would like recommendations for plants (not ivy) that I could grow up it. The garden is quite small so I do not really want anything bushy that will reduce the garden size.

Many thanks
Chris

A selection of clematis, including evergreen ones and climbing roses. The east facing situation though can be a bit tricky because blooms sometimes catch early morning frosts. A variegated evergreen shrub like euronymus (either green/white or green/gold) could also work well and could be trained and along the fence and trimmed to size if necessary.

On second thoughts, I think I would rather erect another more pleasing fence, especially if it's only a small garden. Alternatively you can buy willow or bamboo screening by the roll which could be tied to the wire fence and climbers planted in front of that.

I'm not going to intrude on the 'pretties' side but I'd always look for something edible such as a Blackberry, or similar, that would be pruned back to around six inches from the fence.  A second choice could be an espalier apple to provide fruit as long as the fence will stand it?

Is the photo taken from the house end? If so, the fence faces south so you're looking at things that enjoy sun.
I once saw a fence like that covered in bindweed and it looked spectacular (I think it was in Greece). I'm not suggesting you actually grow bindweed, but maybe annual climbers like morning glory in the early years, to fill gaps while your permanent planting grows.
