Climber
Good evening. I have a south west facing garden, but i want a climber for the rear fence (north east facing). The fence is approx. 7 foot tall, and there is around 40 foot width for a plant to grow. It doesn't have to be evergreen, i already have a native ivy growing further along. It's behind a kids trampoline but far enough away that thorns shouldn't be a problem. I would like some colour be it flowers or a boston ivy type plant ( which is one plant i am considering) i live in Buckinghamshire in a vale so we don't get extreme cold and rarely get a heavy frost. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Gareth.

I know the deciduous one gets pretty big but starts slow so will need training sideways rather than up.
You need a stout fence though and you won't be able to do any repairs or maintainence but then you can't with ivy.
There are varieties of clematis that will spread up to 20ft in one summer and can be cut down to a foot or so every spring so you can maintain the fence or a clematis Montana which you don't need to prune but only flowers in spring. There are evergreen clematis as well. Taylor's or Thorncroft are good websites. I know one of them lists other climbers as well, can't remember which though.
