    Raised beds as well as containers. You'd need large raised beds to grow something which would require less maintenance. That means they take up more space, and they're expensive to fill with the right soil. 
    You need to be patient, and do some research on what will suit, and what is realistic. I'm afraid the forum is littered with queries every year with people wanting an instant solution. We then get follow up queries of what to do after people plant stuff which is unsuitable and they can't, or won't look after them.  :)

    A focal point nearer the house will detract from those windows, or a couple of carefully positioned, slim trellis screens with a climber. You wouldn't need a massive raised bed for those if you choose carefully, but again - they don't instantly grow to a height which will screen those windows. 

    However,  if you intend sitting at the sunny end, you won't be looking at the houses behind - you'll be looking at your own.  :)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    @adjsanders - Wlderbeast has just posted pics of the pergolas he has just built on the "Have you done any gardening today" thread. I wondered whether something similar would help solve your privacy issues?
