Sudden Apricot Fruit Drop

Can anyone advice why my three year old Apricot tree suddenly dropped all its immature marble sized fruit.

The tree is free standing, situated in a sheltered south east facing corner. I pollinated the flowers with a small brush and it appeared to set loads of fruit, then a few weeks ago the tree suddenly dropped the lot.

I top dressed with growmore in February.

Could it have been the dry spell?

Any help will be appreciated, hopefully I will have better luck next year.

  • Hello @Uncle Mort, it could be that you haven’t got a secure set.  I found that pollinating with a brush is not as good unless you have two trees. I then, if necessary, go between the two and pollinate that way. I rarely have to, but find it better that way. Self fertile are always better if you have two different ones. I’m in the south west so have the mild weather. If you are in a cold spot it may be another problem as a unexpected frost. Hopefully, more experience growers will come forward. Valerie
