I never saw my husband without a full beard. He had it when me met and never removed it, passed away with full facial hair intact so not sure I can have an opinion  :)

I really don’t understand the use of slut here...maybe it’s some kind of colloquialism I’m not aware of? But otherwise it’s really weird and offensive given the widely used accepted definition of it?

    I think it's hilarious @B3 :D
I take it some of your options included areas where we don't 'normally' grow beards...or men don't anyway  ;)

Perhaps sloven would have been a better word. Would that word be more acceptable to you? I'm sorry if you found my use if the word offensive . My use of the word intended no sexual connotations whatsoever @Omori

Ok I understand! Some UK words I’m not familiar with their informal meaning, I’ve never heard slut used in any way other than very misogynistic, so it was pretty offensive in that regard. But now I understand what you meant, like untidy etc. Thank you for explaining.

It occurred to me that many men would be taking this opportunity to grow a beard without having to go out in public during the growth period. My husband had one for many years and he's growing one again to see what it looks like. Dashed unpleasant at the moment. I'm looking forward to when it doesn't look like mould spores. It being totally grey isnt helping. I'm not sure if I want to live with Captain Birdseye or col Saunders either😕

The more you know.... 🌈 ⭐️

    slut (n.)

    c. 1400, "a dirty, slovenly, or untidy woman," according to OED "Of doubtful origin," but probably cognate with dialectal German Schlutt"slovenly woman," dialectal Swedish slata "idle woman, slut," and Dutch slodde "slut," slodder "a careless man," but the exact relationship of all these is obscure. Chaucer uses sluttish (late 14c.) in reference to the appearance of an untidy man. Also "a kitchen maid, a drudge" (mid-15c.; hard pieces in a bread loaf from imperfect kneading were called slut's pennies, 18c.).

Specific modern sense of "woman who enjoys sex in a degree considered shamefully excessive" is by 1966. Meaning "woman of loose character, bold hussy" is attested from mid-15c., but the primary association through 18c. was untidiness. Johnson has it (second definition) as "A word of slight contempt to a woman" but sexual activity does not seem to figure into his examples. Playful use of the word, without implication of messiness or loose morals, is attested by 1660s’

How very sexist. Some of the nicest men I've ever met are sluts
