I would go with the netting ... if the wind is so strong it’ll snap the plants it’ll probably blow the blooms off so you’ll get no beans!
We’re in windy East Anglia ... ‘nothing to stop the wind between here and the Urals’ ... I sowed my broad beans direct in the garden at the end of October... they’ve had no protection or support ... from the look of things we’ll be picking the first beans within the next ten days.

Again if you intend this method to be a regular occurrence, and if you'd like to keep your broom handles clean for future quilting activity, you may be aware of heat shrink plastic that can be slipped over something (various sizes available) then, by holding it over a gas jet or similar, it'll shrink and form a tight skin on what's inside it. Thus, a quick wipe clean and it's back to normal.
