New gardener - mildew?

Hi everyone, new gardener here and my rose (of which I am pathetically proud) is being eaten by something - I've attached some pictures. After a bit of googling I've diagnosed it with mildew and have sprayed it with this. Two questions for a noob: is it mildew and have I done the right thing?

Rose slug/rose sawfly (I am not sure what type exactly). You should be able to find the larvae and hand-pick them.

Thank you very much. I’ve just done a thorough check and couldn’t find a single fly or larva. Do they come out at a particular time of day?

Checked again in the evening and there they were - loads of them! All sorted now and my rose is on the mend. Thanks very much!
