The problem with new builds is that, very often, the soil is terrible. Hopefully - yours will be ok. It can be helpful to use a general feed when prepping the soil, and that's best done a few weeks before sowing, so it's a bit late for you. However, I wouldn't worry too much about it just now. That can be addressed, if necessary, at a later date. It also depends just how much effort you want to put into it.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
@Fairygirl that’s a few pics of the garden. My garden is a bit awkward to get good pictures of as it’s in a few different sections. Hopefully the soil isn’t too bad and I’m sure it’s hard to tell from the pics. I’d have liked to get some feed in prior to it being sowed but the ground was in bad shape before they did the work on it so thought I’d let them do the hard work and then I’ll work on it going forward. I don’t mind if there’s a lot of work in it as I know it’ll be worth it in the end. I’ll keep it well watered and see how I get on 😀 thanks so much for all your help. I think I’ve learned more from this post than hours on the internet and YouTube videos where people are trying to sell me stuff lol
It's ok @richardNI - I've got nothing worth flogging Photos are good - and the ground looks nicely prepped, so hopefully the grass will germinate well. Difficult to tell from photos of course, as you say.
I like the gabions too. Nice - and a good backdrop for whatever else you decide to plant.

Yeah hopefully all will go well and the ground seems to look ok @Fairygirl 😀 ps. That’s good that you’re not selling anything!! 😂 I was chatting to the guys that were doing it and they left me with half a bag of seeds which was nice of them in case if any bare patches. Dunno if this seed is any good or not. The funny thing is I didn’t even know we were getting the gabions until I moved in. Not that I’m complaining lol.
just a bit of an update. The front of the house was seeded on the 1st and the back on the 4th maybe. The front looks to be coming on well and it’s growing in the back garden but a bit patchy yet. I was just wondering about the weeds in the attached pictures. The longer grass type weeds and those smaller leafy ones. I was wanted if I should try and pull them out? I could get rid of the longer grassy ones but there’s loads of the smaller ones. I’d be worried about walking on the grass to get rid of them by pulling them out as a lot can’t be accessed from the footpath or patio. I was worried about disturbing the grass that I do want.
thanks as always for your help and any advice would be greatly appreciated.
