Unexplained death

Greetings!
I have small back garden in which, many years ago, I planted mainly evergreen trees/shrubs.  This year, one of them - I don't know what it is - appears to have died.  Before I remove it, can anyone suggest a cause please?  Many thanks.  Adrian.

It looks as if it's fallen over, perhaps the end result of growing out towards the light. Maybe the rootball loosened under the weight of the plant?

Looks very much like a choisya I used to have which became top heavy and fell over in the way Jenny describes. I put it's demise down to the root disturbance.
  • Thanks, Jenny.  I think you may well be right - I hadn't thought about that.  Although there are other smalle braches hidden by oither plants, the main trunk does indeed seem to be lying down.
  • Thanks also, Kitty.  Hey ho!  I think I'd better stick to mowing the lawn :-)

It was probably just too close to the other plants, and they grew faster. Easy to do when you're planting a bunch of things that are all small when you buy them. If you decide to replace it, cut back the lawn to make space where it won't be under the other shrubs.
