Planting Amelanchier lamarckii

Hi

Looking for some advise, we would love to plant a couple of Amelanchier lamarckii in our back garden.

Looking to add some new borders to the garden to put them in and the area we would like is were there used to be a path with slabs. The area under the slabs is basically compacted MOT Sub Base material that appears to be quite deep. Could anyone advise on how much we would need to dig out (depth and diameter) to allow us to plant? I assume that a large quantity will need to be dug out and replaced with top soil.

Hope you can help. Thanks
