Very stoney soil with the odd root from a near by fir tree

Hi, I have a slightly raised bed which is scattered with pebbles & slate throughout. It also has some roots going through it from a near by fir tree. Is there any vegetable that might do well in these conditions? The bed It receives morning sun, but is shaded in the afternoon...Plan B  is just to turf it!

Thanks for any wise words,

Rick

My immediate thought would be anything you eat the leaves off, since root crops are certainly not on. Spinach? Can't see why the soil would bother peas and beans. The fir roots probably suck up a lot of moisture, so not pumpkin/marrow types. If it was me, I'd probably try rhubarb (but I love rhubarb, even eat it raw); should take semi-shade and stoney soil no probs, doesn't like full Sun or soggy roots, but is a perennial.
