Cucumber stems: to bury or not to bury?

Rob45Rob45 Posts: 14
Hello All,

I have just potted on my cucumbers into their final big pots but noticed that they have white nodules at the base of the stem like tomatoes do, and I know you can bury or shore up these in tomatoes to create extra roots. See pics attached. I know you shouldn’t get cucumber stems wet (lost some of last years plants to rot), but a bit of online research seems to indicate that it’s fine to bury these in cucumbers to get more roots. Does anyone have experience with this? Will they create more roots or just let rot set in?

Thanks in advance

Rob

Hi Rob, yes, you can bury those undeveloped root nodules.  I'd put another 5cm of compost in the pot which should do it.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
