Star Jasmine

Can anyone advise what might be wrong with my Star Jasmine and what can I do to rectify it. I planted last year but the leaves are going a funny colour, some are yellowing and others have brown/red colouring on them. P.S. I'm an amateur garden so please be gentle with me. Thanks in advance.

Hi @christine_purcell. Whereabouts are you in the country?
They aren't hardy everywhere, so it's very likely that it's suffering from cold and/or exposure. They need a warm, sheltered spot, especially when young.

It was very dry during April, maybe it needs lots of water.......

I planted two last autumn that had leaf discolouration and die back (although healthy looking when planted). They looked so unsightly I cut them back a bit, and they are producing new shoots now.

Although they are evergreen they still lose leaves and grow new ones. Mine has leaves like that just before they shed and new ones start growing. put your hand in the compost to check it isn't too dry and give it some fertiliser.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • Hi. Thanks everyone. I live in the NE of England but bought it locally. Bit silly selling a plant that won't groe up here, especially when it cost £8!  The soil around it is quite damp and I did water it several times and fed it last month.  I will wait and see what happens, I was more concerned that it had a disease. But thanks again everyone.

Is your star jasmine planted in a pot? Not easy to see from your pic.
It should sprout new foliage at the moment (mine does) or very soon.

  • Hi Papi. Its planted in my border quite close to the fence.. I have a South facing garden so it gets the sun from when it rises in the morning until about 3 in the afternoon at the moment.

Those plants do take some time to establish, don't despair!
  • Thank you, and everyone else,  I am just pleased it hasnt got a disease.
