Where to grow chillies?

I've never grown them before, so where are they most likely to crop well? Indoors on sunny windowsill, outdoors or unheated greenhouse with tomatoes & cues?

They need to be indoors in the UK, unless you fancy taking your chances with weather!

Many people grow them in greenhouses, or in their house [ depending on the amount ] but they're temperature dependent, so you need to be vigilant.

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

They need heat and light to do well, so as fg says, keep indoors when it's a bit chilly, but when it's warm outside they'd be best off in the greenhouse with your tomatoes and cucumbers - that's where I grow mine

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit.
Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.

We get the seeds started indoors on a south facing windowsill, as the temperatures are more consistent than our unheated greenhouse.  I have just moved the seedlings to our greenhouse, as we are unlikely to get a severe frost in London.  During the Summer they do better in our greenhouse, as it gets much hotter than inside the house.  Agree with @Fairygirl do not plant them outdoors if  you want any Chillies.

My chillies have been in the greenhouse for a month already, even through the low temps (3 degrees last night, and not the band). I've never had a problem with crops that have to put up with April temperatures, as long as they are protected.

Thanks all. I think I'll grow them in the greenhouse-that was my gut feeling, although I'd heard they do well indoors.

The main issue I've found with indoor growing is the relative lack of light. A well sited greenhouse will have sun all day, but a window ledge will get far less, and chillies love the sun.
