Catkins on a Walnut tree?

Interested to see today very long, fat catkins on our NDN's old walnut tree - I don't remember seeing these in previous years? It could be quite an old tree, nobody knows but NDN had to have quite a few dead branches lopped off the top a few years ago.

Wonderful...maybe you will get walnuts.
Have you checked for female flowers.
1. - 4. Male catkins
5. Female with baby walnut.

Thanks for photos @Silver surfer . I can't get close enough to see any more. The tree has had good crops (although the squirrels usually nab them all) in the past but this has seemed to decrease in recent years. As I said, I really don't remember seeing catkins on this tree before so I was just curious.

We have never seen so many catkins on our tree, as this year. Sadly we will probably never taste a single Walnut due to Tufty and friends.

That's good to know @KeenOnGreen, perhaps it was the mild winter and wet weather that has helped the trees this year. Tufty will be in heaven!
