  I’d thought about veggies and other bits too, but the site is north facing, isn’t it GeorgeP?

  Thanks so much for all the suggestions and beautiful photos! I think I'm a bit daunted by the size, they're not huge but they're by no means small iykwim! Even topping up with compost would take 8 or more bags I think.
  I think I might just have to go for it, pay for the compost and plant some bedding plants for this summer.
